(Peoria, IL, 2/17/2025) BizPAC of Central Illinois has endorsed James Kemper, Jamie Messmore, and Denis Cyr for Peoria City Council.
The endorsed candidates were interviewed by a diverse group of Central Illinois business leaders and selected for their willingness to address head-on the City of Peoria’s chronic budget problems.
“We must improve the business climate in the City of Peoria and that begins by addressing our long-known financial problems. Having the highest taxes in the entire nation is not a solid foundation for growing our economy. An improved business climate in Peoria will result in more jobs and rising wages and will increase our population instead of our property taxes. Growth is an absolute necessity to dig ourselves out of the budget hole we constantly find ourselves in. We need serious candidates for office now more than ever and our endorsed candidates have exhibited a willingness to directly tackle our biggest challenges,” said BizPAC President Sean Garrett.
The uncertainty surrounding the City’s financial future has left hundreds of millions of dollars of private investment on the sideline in Peoria. Annual tax and fee increases without adequately addressing growing runaway costs has made it impossible for area businesses to reasonably predict future expenses that the City will place on businesses. This cripples investment. The City of Peoria needs to establish a long-term plan so that our small businesses can create jobs and generate new revenue for the City. Unless the City addresses its financial problems, many more businesses as well as important City services will be at risk.
James Kemper (District 1), Jamie Messmore (District 4), and Denis Cyr (District 5) will be champions for our area job-creators and taxpayers. They have all expressed an unwillingness to look at increased taxes as a way to fund additional government spending. In order for Peoria to compete for new businesses and jobs, we must stop discouraging investment by increasing taxes and fees. The BizPAC endorsed candidates will tirelessly advocate for our business community and we encourage you consider their candidacy at the polls this election.
BizPAC will also be evaluating an endorsement after the primary between two great pro-business candidates running in District 2. We encourage voters from District 2 to do their own research on these two pro-business candidates: Alex Carmona and Krista Wresinski. The primary is Tuesday, February 25th and there are three candidates on the primary ballot.
